Unicef reports in 2010 that the Cateura Dump is the central dumping site of over 1,500 tons of solid waste each day. Approximately 2,500 families live surrounding the dump and make money by stripping the site for materials they can sell to the recycling industry.
This region is poverty stricken, driving young children into early labor, and many are illiterate and living in very unsanitary conditions.

I think its absolutely incredible that with so little resources, these people have managed to make something beautiful in their lives out of trash, literally.
